Biofuels can significantly enhance India’s energy security and reduce its petroleum import dependence. Biofuels, which are environmentally friendly, renewable, and derived from biological sources, are decentralized by their nature. Resources like industrial organic waste, animal dung, agricultural residues, and MSW are distributed all over the nation. Under a depressing sugar price regime, the production of bioethanol has saved the Indian sugar industry. Ethanol is one of the most widely used organic chemicals in industrial and consumer products. Ethanol is a clear, colorless liquid with a characteristic, agreeable odor. In dilute aqueous solutions, it has a somewhat sweet flavor, but in more concentrated solutions, it has a burning taste. The production of bio-ethanol is not only in the interest of the sugar industry but the country as a whole as a clean and green fuel that also ensures energy security. There is a greater need for developing various business models for operating distilleries with different feedstocks, keeping in mind the availability of feedstock, bioethanol potential, and economics of production.
